Frozen Form

Photography series exploring form and stillness through preserved museum specimens.

When a living being becomes still, it is easier to notice the beauty of its form. The most complete stillness is found in death. To explore this idea, I photographed exhibits at the Zoological Museum of Moscow University, visiting as an ordinary museum-goer and working only with available museum light.

By removing extraneous elements from the image, I tried to give these creatures a different kind of presence. Stripped of test tubes, surroundings, and reflections, they exist in a new visual space where form and detail come to the foreground.

These exhibits hold not only scientific value, but also reveal the elegance of these creatures and remind us of the finite nature of all living beings. They are not only objects of study, but also subjects for contemplation.
